Mumbai Ticketless Travel Drops 22% After Penalty Doubles

Mumbai Ticketless Travel Drops 22% After Penalty Doubles

In Mumbai, the number of people traveling on trains without tickets has gone down by about 22% after the fine for not having a ticket was doubled to ₹500.

This change happened because of a new law called the Jan Vishwas Act.

Before the change, the fine was ₹250.

The railways checked tickets and found fewer people without tickets, but they collected more money in fines.

The railways are happy because more people are buying tickets, but some passengers might find the new fine too expensive.
