How Parents Can Help Children Build Independence Gradually

How Parents Can Help Children Build Independence Gradually

Being independent means learning to do more things by yourself over time.

It does not mean children must handle everything alone.

Parents should still give guidance, rules and comfort.

They should help when a task is genuinely too difficult for a child.

Instead of always doing a task for a child, a parent can first do it together with them.

Later, the child can try the task alone.

Children may learn from carefully managed struggles and choices.

These experiences can help them become more prepared for life outside the home.
