MoSPI to Launch National Household Income Survey in 2026
The government is going to start a big survey to find out how much money people in India make.
It's called the National Household Income Survey.
They've tried this before, but it's hard because people don't always want to share how much they earn.
The survey will start in 2026 and should show the results by 2027.
It's important to understand everyone's income to see how the economy is changing.
The government is working hard to make sure people trust the survey and feel comfortable answering the questions, keeping information secret.
MoSPI will launch the National Household Income Survey (NHIS) in February 2026.
Results of the NHIS are expected to be available by mid-2027.
Past attempts to conduct income surveys faced challenges in collecting reliable data.
Pre-testing revealed most respondents found income information sensitive and were hesitant to disclose it.
The survey aims to better understand structural changes in the Indian economy.
