Artisan Seeks to Revive Kashmir’s Fur Trade Sustainably

An artisan named Kalwal wants to help bring Kashmir’s fur trade back.

The plan would use hides from sheep and goats instead of killing wild animals.

Kashmir has many hides available because people there eat a lot of meat.

However, much of the value of these hides is currently lost.

This is partly because the region does not have enough places to tan and process them.

New facilities could help turn the hides into useful products.

They could also help create a larger leather and pelt industry.

This would give local artisans a stronger supply chain to work with.
