Odisha Flood Crisis: Multi-Department Response Intensified Across Affected Districts
Heavy rains in Odisha caused big floods that hurt many people and villages.
The state government sent many departments like Water Resources, Health, and Housing to help.
They used sandbags to stop rivers from overflowing and fixed roads and power lines.
A special 24‑hour control room watches the situation all day.
They also plan a new drainage plan for cities.
About 5.9 million people were affected, and 176,000 were moved to safer places.
Rescue teams keep working to keep everyone safe.
Odisha state government mobilized multiple departments—Revenue, Disaster Management, Water Resources, Health, Energy, Works—to conduct rescue, relief, and infrastructure restoration amid widespread flooding.
Water Resources officials deployed field engineers and sandbags to secure embankments and the Kharsuan river overflow, while monitoring critical flood structures.
Housing and Urban Development launched a 24‑hour control room, cancelled leave for flood‑management staff, and plans a “Strong Drainage Master Plan” for urban local bodies.
The crisis has affected 18 districts, 95 blocks, 472 Gram Panchayats, 1,301 villages, and 14 urban local bodies, displacing 5.93 million people and evacuating 176,518.
Coordinated efforts by Special Relief Commissioner, district administrations, ODRAF, and rescue teams aim to safeguard residents and restore services.
