TTD Scam: Rs 54 Crore Fake Silk Dupattas
The Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD), which manages the Tirupati temple, found out that a company was giving them polyester dupattas instead of the silk dupattas they asked for.
This happened for many years, and the company charged a lot more money than the dupattas were worth.
The TTD wants the government to investigate this because it cost them a lot of money.
They found out by checking the dupattas in labs and saw that they were not silk.
The TTD has stopped working with this company and wants the Anti-Corruption Bureau to look into it.
The dupattas were supposed to be made of pure mulberry silk and have special markings, but they didn't.
The TTD is also planning to buy new dupattas through new tenders.
TTD discovered a Rs 54 crore scam where a supplier provided polyester dupattas instead of pure mulberry silk.
The fraud occurred over a decade, from 2015 to 2025, with the supplier billing for higher-quality silk.
Laboratory tests confirmed the dupattas were polyester, lacking the required silk hologram for authenticity.
TTD has scrapped all contracts with the supplier and referred the matter to the Anti-Corruption Bureau for investigation.
This scandal follows previous controversies at TTD, including adulterated ghee in prasadam and a hundi counting theft case.
