Sber Bank Authorized for Gold Imports in India
The Commerce Ministry in India has added Sber Bank, a Russian bank, to the list of banks that can import gold into the country.
This is for the financial year 2025-26, which runs from June 25, 2025, to March 31, 2026.
The gold imported by Sber Bank can only be used within India.
Before this, only two Indian banks were allowed to import gold.
The ministry made this change to help manage the country's money and trade balance.
It also aims to make sure there is enough gold for jewelers and other users in India.
This change is part of India's rules for controlling gold imports.
Sber Bank added to the list of authorized gold importers for FY2025-26.
Authorization valid from June 25, 2025, to March 31, 2026, for domestic consumption only.
Only two Indian banks were previously authorized for gold imports in FY26.
Change made under the Foreign Trade Policy, 2023, to manage foreign exchange outflows and trade deficit.
