8th Pay Commission Delay Could Cost Staff Lakhs

8th Pay Commission Delay Could Cost Staff Lakhs

The 8th Pay Commission may recommend new salaries and allowances for government workers and pensioners.

It is expected to submit its report around May or June 2027.

The government may need four to six more months to study and apply the recommendations.

Workers may receive revised basic pay from January 1, 2026.

However, house rent allowance and transport allowance usually are not paid for earlier months.

This means workers could miss the extra allowance money during the waiting period.

Under one estimate, employees in Levels 3 to 6 could miss between about ₹1.88 lakh and ₹3.45 lakh.

A later rollout could increase the missed amount by roughly ₹80,000 to ₹1 lakh compared with a May 2027 rollout.

These are only projections because the final pay factor and allowance rates have not been decided.
