Bhutan’s 2026 Tshechu Festivals Offer Rituals, Dances and Traditions

Bhutan will celebrate several Tshechu festivals from September through December 2026.

These are important religious and cultural gatherings.

Monks and local performers wear colorful clothes and large masks.

They perform dances that tell Buddhist stories and show ideas such as compassion and good defeating evil.

People believe the ceremonies bring blessings and good fortune.

One special moment in Thimphu is the unveiling of a large sacred scroll called a Thongdrel.

Visitors can also see traditional clothing, music, food stalls and handicrafts.

The festivals will take place in several parts of Bhutan, including Thimphu, Bumthang and Trongsa.

Travellers can join some activities and experience the celebrations with local communities.
