India Denies US Rice Dumping Claims
India and the United States are having a disagreement about rice.
The US says India is selling rice in the US at very low prices, which is called dumping.
But India says it only sells high-quality basmati rice, which is usually more expensive.
The US has put high taxes on many Indian goods, including rice.
India and the US are also talking about making a trade agreement to lower these taxes.
India is the biggest rice exporter in the world and sends a lot of rice to the US.
Both countries are trying to solve their problems and make a deal that helps both of them.
India denies US accusations of dumping rice, stating exports are primarily premium basmati.
US President Trump threatened more tariffs on Indian rice, accusing India of dumping.
India shipped 20.2 million metric tons of rice in 2024/25, with 335,554 tons to the US.
India and the US are close to finalizing a framework trade deal to address high tariffs.
US has imposed up to 50% tariffs on Indian goods, affecting exports like textiles and food items.
