Fake care recruiter shut down after £19,000 scam
A company called Medrecruiter Limited tricked workers from Nigeria, Pakistan, and the Philippines.
They promised jobs and visa help in the UK but couldn't actually do this.
The workers paid a lot of money upfront, but the company didn't help them get jobs or visas.
When the workers asked for their money back, the company refused.
The government found out and shut down the company.
They said the company was taking advantage of people who just wanted a better life.
The government also warned people to check if a company is approved before paying for visa services.
Medrecruiter Limited charged 23 overseas workers upfront fees for job placements and visa sponsorship it couldn't provide.
The company had no Home Office sponsorship licence and no evidence of filing any visa applications.
Workers paid up to £1,199 in consultation fees, plus extra charges for training and uniforms.
The company used delay tactics and blamed Home Office backlogs for not processing applications.
Medrecruiter Limited was wound up in the High Court in London on 16th August 2024.
Colette Mooney, Chief Investigator at the Insolvency Service, warned against companies exploiting vulnerable people seeking jobs.
