Maharashtra Amends Redevelopment Rules for Housing Societies
The Maharashtra government has updated the rules for housing societies to make redevelopment easier.
Now, members can attend meetings online, and the registrar's office doesn't need to give permission for choosing a developer.
However, the registrar's representative must be present at the meeting, and the meeting must be recorded.
The rules also say that two-thirds of the members must be present to start the meeting, and at least half of all members must agree to choose a developer.
If not enough members show up, the meeting can be postponed.
Some people think these rules are confusing and might cause legal problems.
Maharashtra amended housing society rules on June 18 to allow online attendance for redevelopment SGBMs.
Two-thirds of members must be present to start the meeting, and 51% must agree to choose a developer.
The registrar's representative must be present, but no NOC is required for developer selection.
Meetings must be video recorded, with copies kept by the chairman and the registrar's office.
If the quorum is not met, the meeting can be adjourned to a later date.
