Severe Cold Wave Grips North India

Severe Cold Wave Grips North India

A very cold winter has hit the Jammu, Kashmir, Ladakh, and Delhi regions.

The famous Dal Lake in Srinagar has frozen, and many places are experiencing extremely low temperatures.

Srinagar had its coldest night of the season at -6°C, while Dras in Ladakh was the coldest at -24.6°C.

Other places like Nyoma, Leh, Gulmarg, Pahalgam, Shopian, Pulwama, and Sonamarg are also very cold.

Delhi recorded its coldest morning of the season at 4.2°C, with dense fog and very poor air quality.

This is happening during a 40-day period called Chillai Kalan, which is the coldest part of winter in Kashmir.

The weather department says it might snow a little in some higher areas and that the cold will stay for a while before getting a bit warmer.
