Manpreet Kaur wins Asian Games bronze after doping ban
Manpreet Kaur is an Indian athlete who throws a heavy metal ball in a sport called shot put.
She won a bronze medal at the Asian Games.
Her throw traveled 17.17 metres.
Chinese athletes Song Jiyuan and Zhang Linru finished ahead of her.
This was Manpreet’s first medal at the Asian Games.
Years earlier, she was banned after testing positive for a prohibited substance.
She said contaminated supplements caused the test result, while also saying athletes are responsible for what they take.
Her husband, daughter and improved training helped her return to the podium.
Manpreet Kaur won shot put bronze at the Asian Games with a 17.17-metre throw.
China’s Song Jiyuan won gold with 19.40 metres, while Zhang Linru took silver with 18.14 metres.
The medal was Kaur’s first at the Asian Games and came nearly a decade after her doping ban.
Kaur attributed the positive test to contaminated supplements but acknowledged athletes remain responsible for what they consume.
Her medal followed a difficult career involving family losses, childbirth recovery and the deletion of her national record.
