ITR e-filing portal stable despite traffic surge
The Indian government has confirmed that the income-tax return (ITR) e-filing portal is working well despite a big increase in users during the busy tax filing season.
They also said that they have fined Infosys, the company responsible for the portal, for not finishing the project on time in 2020 and for not meeting their service promises over 12 quarters.
The portal has seen a lot more activity this year, with up to 1.22 million tax returns filed in a single day.
The government has made the portal stronger by increasing its capacity to handle up to 10 million returns a day and setting up a 24x7 monitoring system to fix any problems quickly.
The ITR e-filing portal is largely stable despite a surge in traffic during peak filing season.
Infosys has been penalized for project delays and service-level agreement breaches.
ITR filings nearly doubled between July 8-14, 2026, compared to the same period in 2025.
The portal's capacity has been increased to process up to 10 million ITRs daily.
The government has implemented 24x7 monitoring and strengthened cybersecurity measures.
