UIDAI Introduces Aadhaar Verifiable Credential for Offline Verification
The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has introduced a new way to verify identities using Aadhaar called Aadhaar Verifiable Credential (AVC).
This allows people to share only parts of their Aadhaar information, like the last four digits and some personal details, without revealing the full Aadhaar number.
The new rules also include a way to verify identities using a live photo match with the Aadhaar photo.
Entities that want to use this verification method will need to register with UIDAI.
The changes are part of efforts to move away from physical Aadhaar cards and reduce the risk of misuse.
A new Aadhaar mobile app is also in the works to make this process easier and more secure.
