Mediobanca CEO Criticizes Governments for Hampering Bank Mergers

The head of Mediobanca, a big bank, says that governments in Europe are making it harder for banks to merge and become bigger.

He says this is a new problem.

Banks like UniCredit and BBVA have tried to buy other banks, but governments in countries like Germany, Italy, and Spain have stopped them.

Mediobanca itself is dealing with an unwanted offer from another bank, supported by the Italian government.

Mediobanca thinks the offer isn't good enough and is trying to buy another company, Banca Generali, to protect itself.
