People in Hyderabad began placing Ganesh idols into water on Wednesday.
It was the third day of an 11-day festival.
Many people carried the idols in processions with drums and dancing.
Officials prepared cranes to help with the immersions.
Police and municipal workers were also stationed at the water bodies.
People were asked to use special bags for flowers and other पूजा materials.
They were told not to immerse idols at upper Tank Bund.
Officials expect many more idols to be immersed as the festival continues.
