Sabyasachi and The Met Announce Byzantine-Inspired High Jewellery Collaboration
Sabyasachi is a famous fashion designer from India.
He is now working with The Met, a very big museum in New York that holds art and history from the last 5,000 years.
Together, they are making a special jewellery collection.
The jewellery is inspired by the Byzantine Empire, an old empire that connected many cultures and countries.
Some pieces are inspired by ancient Roman carvings, old carved boxes and stone reliefs at the museum.
Every piece is made completely by hand in India using gold and colourful gems.
The collection will be shown in September 2026 at New York Fashion Week.
It is just the start of a creative partnership that will last for many years.
Later, the designers will also make accessories and clothing.
Sabyasachi made history in 2024 as the first Indian designer to walk the Met Gala red carpet.
Indian designer Sabyasachi Mukherjee announced a multi-year collaboration with The Metropolitan Museum of Art (The Met), beginning with an exclusive High Jewellery collection inspired by the Byzantine Empire.
The collection debuts at New York Fashion Week on September 15, 2026, transforming historic designs into 'modern heirlooms rooted in the past, crafted for today.'
Every piece is conceived, developed and entirely handcrafted in India by master artisans in 18k and 22k gold with gems including tourmaline, garnet, jasper, lapis lazuli, jade and brown diamonds.
Designs draw on artefacts from The Met's 5,000-year collection, including a 3rd-century Roman marble sarcophagus, a 12th-century Italian or Byzantine carved casket and a 2nd-3rd century CE Roman funerary relief from Thrace.
The collection includes more than 100 pieces priced from approximately $2,500 to $100,000 and will be sold at Sabyasachi's flagship store at 160 Christopher Street in New York, other global stores and select specialty retailers.
