BASAI Seeks GST Clarification on Biostimulants
BASAI, a group for companies that make plant helpers called biostimulants, is asking the government for clarity.
Biostimulants are like vitamins for plants, and the government has started regulating them.
The problem is that some people aren't sure how much tax (GST) should be paid on these products.
Some believe it should be a low rate, while others think it's higher.
BASAI wants to clear up this confusion to help the companies and farmers who use the products.
The government has also changed which biostimulants can be sold, and now BASAI wants to make sure the best products are available to farmers.
The market for these products is quite large in India.
BASAI is seeking clarification from the government regarding GST rates for biostimulants.
Biostimulants have been regulated under the Fertiliser (Control) Order (FCO) since 2021.
There is confusion over whether biostimulants should be classified under a 5% or 18% GST category.
BASAI believes biostimulants should be under the 5% GST category.
The market size of biostimulants in India is estimated to be ₹2,500-₹3,000 crore.
