India-Bangladesh Tensions Rise Over Protests
A small group of people protested outside the Bangladesh building in New Delhi because a man named Dipu Chandra Das was killed in Bangladesh.
The Indian government said the protest was peaceful and that reports saying otherwise were not true.
The man was killed by a mob who accused him of something called blasphemy, but officials later said there was no proof of that.
The Indian government is also worried about the safety of its people in Bangladesh and has stopped giving visas in Chittagong for now.
There have been other protests in Bangladesh, and some people have been arrested for the killing.
A religious leader named Maulana Mahmood Madani said that what happened was very wrong and that extremism needs to be stopped.
The Bangladeshi government said they did not agree with how India described the protest and that the protesters were able to get too close to their building.
A small group of 20-25 protesters gathered outside the Bangladesh High Commission in New Delhi to protest the killing of Dipu Chandra Das in Bangladesh.
The Indian Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) rejected reports of any violence or breach of security during the protest, calling them 'misleading propaganda'.
Dipu Chandra Das, a 25-30-year-old garment factory worker, was beaten to death and his body set on fire by a mob over alleged blasphemy in Bhaluka, Mymensingh district, Bangladesh.
Bangladesh's Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has arrested twelve individuals in connection with the killing, and investigations found no evidence to support the blasphemy allegations.
India has suspended visa operations in Chittagong, Bangladesh, due to security concerns following protests and attacks on Indian diplomatic premises.
Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind president Maulana Mahmood Madani condemned the killing, stating that extremism must be countered in the region and worldwide.
