Karnataka Government Uncovers Pension Fraud, Updates Land Records
The Karnataka government is checking to make sure that the right people are getting social security pensions.
They found over 1.18 million people who might not be eligible, including some who pay income tax or work for the government.
Some people were getting pensions even though they weren't old enough, and others were using fake documents to get disability pensions.
The government is also updating land records to help farmers and digitizing these records so it's easier to access them online and prevent tampering.
Karnataka government identified over 11.8 lakh potentially fraudulent social security pension beneficiaries.
Findings include 13,702 income tax payers and 117 government employees.
Aadhaar verification revealed thousands receiving pensions despite not meeting the age criteria.
