Swiss Voters Poised to Reject Proposed Neutrality Changes

Swiss Voters Poised to Reject Proposed Neutrality Changes

Swiss people will vote on two proposals on September 27.

One proposal would create stricter rules for Switzerland’s traditional neutrality.

It would limit cooperation with military groups such as NATO.

It would also restrict sanctions against countries involved in wars, except for some United Nations measures.

The government and most political parties oppose the plan.

The Swiss People’s Party supports it.

A poll found more people against the plan than in favor of it.

Another proposal would change food production and protect water, soil, and biodiversity.

That proposal also had more opponents than supporters in the poll.
