Govt cancels 5,371 fertiliser licences for malpractices
The government has cancelled 5,371 licences of fertiliser companies because they were doing bad things like selling fake fertiliser, keeping too much fertiliser for themselves, and selling it to the wrong people.
The minister said that from April to November, they sent many notices to these companies and even filed police reports.
The government is also watching how the fertiliser is being used to make sure it gets to the farmers who need it.
Some farmers are taking more fertiliser than they need, which is a problem.
The minister said that the state governments should help stop this.
A member of the government also said that farmers are being forced to buy extra things they don't need, which is causing them money problems.
The minister said they will talk to the companies to make sure this stops.
The government cancelled 5,371 licences of fertiliser firms for malpractices like black marketing, hoarding, and distributing substandard material.
From April 1 to November 28, 12,814 show-cause notices were issued, and 649 FIRs were lodged.
The Centre takes action under the Essential Commodities Act of 1955 and the Fertiliser Control Order to check malpractices.
The Integrated Fertiliser Monitoring System is used to monitor fertiliser supplies in real time.
Farmers are taking more fertiliser than they need, which is a problem that state governments should help address.
