Indian Artist Sends Miniature Sculptures to Space
An artist from Warangal, India, named Ajay Kumar Mattewada, has created tiny sculptures of three famous scientists: C.V. Raman, Vikram Sarabhai, and A.P.J. Abdul Kalam.
These sculptures are so small that they fit inside the eye of a sewing needle.
Mattewada spent about 140 hours making these sculptures using special materials like gold, silver, and ceramic powder.
These tiny artworks were then placed inside a small gold rocket and sent into space on a bigger rocket called Vikram-1.
The rocket was launched from Sriharikota and is now traveling in a low Earth orbit.
This is the first time an Indian artist's work has gone to space, making it a very special achievement.
Ajay Kumar Mattewada, a Warangal-based micro artist, created miniature sculptures of C.V. Raman, Vikram Sarabhai, and A.P.J. Abdul Kalam.
The sculptures, each 0.8 millimetres in size, were carved inside the eye of a sewing needle.
The project took 140 hours to complete and used materials like stainless steel, 24-karat gold, pure silver, ceramic powder, and carbon fibre particles.
The sculptures were mounted inside a miniature 18-karat gold rocket and sent into space aboard Skyroot Aerospace's Vikram-1 rocket.
The rocket was launched from Sriharikota and is heading towards a 450-km Low Earth Orbit.
