Experts Seek Stronger Screening for Indian Pilots Abroad

Experts Seek Stronger Screening for Indian Pilots Abroad

Experts want Indian-trained pilots who work for foreign airlines to undergo very careful checks.

They said pilots should be tested and evaluated before taking international jobs.

India’s aviation regulator does not directly control pilots working for airlines based in other countries.

The regulator in the airline’s home country is responsible for overseeing those pilots.

Experts also discussed rules requiring two people to be in the cockpit.

They said safety rules may need to be reviewed if a danger comes from inside the cockpit.

One expert praised Captain Smit Machhar for acting bravely during an incident involving nearly 170 passengers.

The Civil Aviation Ministry said its new security reforms are designed to make procedures clearer and more accountable while preserving safety.
