SC Recalls Judgment on Retrospective Environmental Clearances
The Supreme Court of India has temporarily put on hold its earlier decision that rejected retrospective environmental clearances for projects.
A larger bench will now decide on some limited exceptions where such clearances might be allowed.
Until then, the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change should not issue any new rules that allow projects to get clearances after they have already started.
This is to protect the environment and make sure that projects follow the rules from the beginning.
