Fake CBI Officers Dupe Ghatkopar Senior Citizen ₹7.7 Lakh
A 69-year-old man in Ghatkopar received a call from people pretending to be police and investigation officers.
They told him that a Hong Kong bank account had been opened using his identity.
They falsely said the account contained ₹64 crore and that he had received money from it.
The callers threatened to arrest him and showed him a fake arrest warrant.
They also made video calls to make the investigation seem real.
The man was told to send money so his bank account could be checked.
He transferred ₹7.7 lakh from a fixed deposit.
When the callers stopped answering, he learned that he had been scammed.
A 69-year-old Ghatkopar resident was allegedly cheated of ₹7.72 lakh by cybercriminals posing as Delhi Crime Branch and CBI officials.
The fraudsters falsely claimed a Hong Kong bank account in his name contained ₹64 crore and that he had received ₹2.50 crore as commission.
They threatened him with arrest, showed a purported arrest warrant and conducted a fake digital investigation over video calls.
Following their instructions, the victim broke a fixed deposit and transferred ₹7.7 lakh by RTGS for alleged account verification.
Pantnagar police registered a case against unidentified callers and beneficiary account holders under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and Information Technology Act.
