India's Bank Credit Growth Moderates Across Sectors in May
In May 2025, the growth of money banks lend out slowed down a bit in India.
Overall, banks are lending more money than last year, but not as quickly as before.
This slowdown happened across many different types of loans.
For example, people borrowed less for things like cars and credit cards, even though housing loans were still doing well.
Banks also lowered their interest rates, making it cheaper for people to borrow money, following some cuts in the official interest rate.
This means it cost less to borrow money.
Bank credit growth in India showed signs of slowing in May 2025.
Non-food bank credit growth eased to 9.8% year-on-year in May.
Personal loan growth decelerated due to slower vehicle loans and credit card outstandings.
Housing loans continued to support the personal loan segment.
Banks reduced lending rates amid policy rate cuts.
