Chennai plans to build 11 new bus shelters with air conditioning.

The Greater Chennai Corporation is working with organisations that will pay for them through CSR contributions.

The shelters are meant to help people wait for buses more safely and comfortably.

This is especially useful during Chennai’s very hot weather.

Each shelter will have seats or a waiting area, CCTV cameras and Wi-Fi.

People will also get bus route information, lights and USB charging points.

Ramps will be added where possible to make the shelters easier to access.

If the pilot works well and more funding is available, the Corporation may build more shelters.
