Tamil Nadu Suspends Cooperative Crop Loan Recovery

Tamil Nadu Suspends Cooperative Crop Loan Recovery

Farmers in Tamil Nadu who borrowed crop loans through cooperative societies do not have to make loan repayments for now.

The state’s Registrar of Cooperative Societies told local officials and district cooperative banks to stop collecting these loans temporarily.

The department says it is checking whether the societies follow the order.

Some farmers had reported receiving calls asking them to pay overdue amounts.

Officials say all collection activity is suspended for the time being.

They have advised farmers not to give in to these recovery calls.

The report does not say how long the pause will last.

It also does not explain why the pause was ordered.
