BJP Plans Twin Bike Rallies for Modi Birthday Campaign
The Bharatiya Janata Party will hold events across India for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s birthday.
The events will also mark his 25 years in public life.
The party is calling the campaign Seva Diwas, or a day of service.
Amit Shah will start a motorcycle journey from Vadnagar, where Modi was born, toward Varanasi.
Rajnath Singh will start a similar journey from Varanasi in the opposite direction.
About 1,000 young people are expected to join the two journeys.
The campaign will include blood donations, cleaning drives, tree planting and other helpful activities.
People will also light lamps to wish Modi good health and a long life.
The two journeys are scheduled to finish on October 7.
Amit Shah will flag off a Vadnagar-to-Varanasi bike yatra on Thursday, while Rajnath Singh launches the return rally from Varanasi.
The twin yatras will mark Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s 76th birthday and 25 years in public life.
The rallies are expected to cover about 40,000 kilometres across 193 districts, 1,159 villages and 10 states, involving around 1,000 young people.
The BJP will hold blood donation, cleanliness, tree-planting, public welfare and awareness programmes nationwide under its month-long Seva Sankalp Abhiyan.
The party plans evening lamp-lighting events nationwide, though its statements cited different totals of more than 500 prominent locations and more than 700 locations overall.
