Mumbai's Historic Forts Crumbling: Neglect and Lack of Funds
Mumbai has six old forts, like Riwa, Sewri, Worli, Mahim, Bandra, and Sion, that have historical importance.
Many of these forts are falling apart.
They haven't been fixed up in a long time because there isn't enough money or people to take care of them.
Some have been taken over by people who shouldn't be there.
Although some restoration is taking place in Sewri and Bandra, most of the forts are in bad shape.
Authorities are planning a new way to get the forts fixed up, like asking for help from private groups.
Five of Mumbai's six forts are in poor condition due to lack of maintenance and funds.
The Riwa Fort in Dharavi, built in 1737, is in a dilapidated state.
Mahim Fort, dating back to the 13th century, has suffered from encroachment.
Sewri Fort is undergoing restoration, while Bandra Fort has seen some improvements.
Lack of maintenance budgets and staffing shortages hinder conservation efforts.
