BITS Hyderabad Develops Painless Smartwatch for Diabetes Monitoring
Imagine a watch that can tell you your blood sugar without a painful finger prick!
Researchers at BITS Hyderabad have made a smartwatch that checks your glucose, and other important things like uric acid and lactate, using your sweat.
This is a much easier and cheaper way for people with diabetes to keep track of their health.
The watch is expected to cost about Rs 2,500 and will hopefully be available in about a year.
It is developed by a team from the MEMS lab and is expected to go into commercial production after regulatory approvals and clinical validation.
BITS Pilani Hyderabad developed a smartwatch-based wearable for non-invasive glucose monitoring.
The device uses sweat to measure glucose, uric acid, and lactate levels.
The platform aims to provide a painless and low-cost alternative to traditional blood tests.
The device is expected to cost around Rs 2,500 and may be commercially available in a year.
The research is being translated into commercialization through Cleome Innovation, a spin-off from BITS Pilani.
