MP Couples Protest Delayed Marriage Scheme Payments
Imagine getting married and being promised some money to help you start your new life.
In Jhabua, India, many couples who got married in March were promised money from a government program.
However, as of September, they still haven't received it.
These couples are upset and are asking for the money they were promised.
The government says it's working on it and the delay is due to funds pending and the payment process under review.
Some couples are also concerned because they believe only tribal brides have been affected, while brides from other communities have received the promised funds.
Now, these couples, along with social organizations, are asking the government to pay them as soon as possible.
A mass marriage ceremony took place on March 27 in Jhabua, Madhya Pradesh, attended by 292 couples.
Each couple was promised ₹49,000 under the Mukhya Mantri Kanya Vivah Yojana.
As of September 16, 2025, couples in Ranapur block have not received payments.
Affected couples are protesting the delay and allege discrimination.
Government officials cite pending fund allocation and are reviewing the payment process.
