Udhayanidhi Stalin: arrest aimed to divert attention from farmers' issues

A big politician in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu is named Udhayanidhi Stalin.

He went to a protest to support farmers who need water from the Cauvery river.

During the protest, some people in the crowd shouted the name of a famous actress, Trisha.

Udhayanidhi said something that some people thought was a rude joke about her.

The police took him in for questioning because of his words.

Udhayanidhi says he was only talking about water, not the actress.

He thinks the government arrested him to stop him from helping farmers and from asking questions in the Assembly meeting.

A judge at the Madras High Court said the police should let him go after questioning.

The government says his words about a woman were very bad and send a wrong message to society.

Both sides are very upset, and many people are arguing about what really happened.
