Bangladesh Summons Indian Envoy Over Hasina's Statements
Bangladesh's Foreign Ministry called the Indian ambassador to express their serious concern about some strong statements made by Sheikh Hasina, who is currently living in India.
Sheikh Hasina is a former leader of Bangladesh who fled to India last year after protests.
She was recently sentenced to death in Bangladesh for serious crimes.
Bangladesh wants her to be sent back to face justice.
The Indian ambassador was asked to come and discuss this issue.
India said they did not allow any activities against Bangladesh from their soil and want peaceful elections in Bangladesh.
Bangladesh's Foreign Ministry summoned Indian High Commissioner Pranay Verma to express serious concern over Sheikh Hasina's statements.
Sheikh Hasina, 78, fled to India in August 2024 following violent student-led protests and continues to stay there.
Hasina was sentenced to death by a special tribunal last month for crimes against humanity.
Bangladesh has been demanding her extradition from India.
India rejected allegations that it allowed anti-Bangladesh activities from its soil and reiterated support for peaceful elections in Bangladesh.
