Venezuela Releases Opposition Leader's Son-in-Law from Prison
Rafael Tudares Bracho, a lawyer and son-in-law of Venezuelan opposition leader Edmundo Gonzalez, was released from prison after being detained for 380 days.
He was arrested in January 2025 in Caracas and accused of terrorism, which his family says is a politically motivated charge.
His release comes after President Nicolas Maduro was captured and taken to the U.S. to face narcoterrorism charges.
So far, 151 political prisoners have been released, but many more are still in detention.
Families of detainees have been holding vigils outside prisons to find out where their loved ones are being held.
The U.S. has struck a deal with Venezuela to refine and sell up to 50 million barrels of crude oil, but the opposition is disappointed that the U.S. is working with Maduro's allies rather than pressing for a transition.
