DeepSeek CEO backs China's AI chip push

DeepSeek, a Chinese AI company, wants to create artificial general intelligence (AGI), which is AI that can do many intellectual tasks as well as or better than humans.

The company's founder, Liang Wenfeng, thinks that focusing on AGI is more important than making money from current AI products.

He believes that US restrictions on Nvidia's advanced AI hardware are actually helping China develop its own AI chips.

DeepSeek is working with Huawei to build a stronger AI ecosystem in China that doesn't rely on Nvidia.
