BRICS 2026 Logo Similarities Spark Controversy
The Indian government launched the logo for the BRICS Summit in 2026, which looks like a lotus flower with two hands in a Namaste gesture.
Some people, especially those who support the Congress party, said the logo was copied from a hospital in Telangana.
But the government said the logo was actually used before in 2016 for the BRICS Summit and was designed by a man named Sudeep Subhash Gandhi.
The hospital was registered in 2018, which means the hospital's logo might have copied the BRICS logo, not the other way around.
The government and some news outlets are saying that the claims of copying are not true.
The BRICS 2026 logo was launched by the Ministry of External Affairs on January 13, 2026.
The logo is inspired by India's national flower, the lotus, with two hands in a Namaste gesture and five petals representing the BRICS nations.
Congress supporters and The Wire alleged that the logo was copied from a hospital in Telangana.
The BRICS 2026 logo is identical to the BRICS 2016 logo, designed by Sudeep Subhash Gandhi and selected through an open contest.
The Lotus Cure Multi Speciality Hospital was registered in 2018, two years after the BRICS 2016 logo was designed.
