SpaceX IPO Hype Boosts Obscure ETF
A special investment fund called XOVR has become very popular because it owns a small piece of SpaceX, the company owned by Elon Musk.
People are excited because SpaceX might go public in 2026, which could make it worth a lot of money.
The fund has taken in a lot of money recently because of this excitement.
However, experts say that even if SpaceX's value goes up, the fund's overall performance might not change much because SpaceX is now a small part of the fund.
Also, people who buy the fund now might not see big gains because the price could go down after the IPO.
The ERShares Private-Public Crossover ETF (XOVR) has gained over $470 million since December 8, 2023, due to its exposure to SpaceX.
SpaceX is targeting a 2026 IPO that could raise over $30 billion and value the company at about $1.5 trillion.
XOVR holds a small piece of SpaceX through a special-purpose vehicle, making it the only US-listed ETF with such exposure.
SpaceX's share in XOVR has shrunk to about 4% of its assets as the fund attracts more cash, diluting the SpaceX position.
Experts warn that the potential gains from SpaceX's IPO might be marginal for XOVR investors due to the fund's current structure and valuation methods.
