Supreme Court Rejects Tejpal’s Exemption Plea, Orders Surrender Before Appeal

Supreme Court Rejects Tejpal’s Exemption Plea, Orders Surrender Before Appeal

The Supreme Court said Tarun Tejpal must surrender before his appeal can be heard.

Tejpal had asked the court to let him wait before going into custody.

The court rejected that request.

It told him to report to authorities and provide proof of surrender.

His appeal may be listed on September 22 if he meets that requirement.

The appeal challenges a Bombay High Court conviction in a 2013 case involving a former colleague.

The High Court gave him a 10-year prison sentence after overturning an earlier acquittal.

The Goa government disagrees with the sentence and wants life imprisonment.
