Doctors Remove Six-Centimetre Oesophageal Tumour Without External Incision

Doctors treated a young woman who had trouble swallowing for about four months.

Tests found a six-centimetre lump in her oesophagus, the tube that carries food to the stomach.

The lump was a leiomyoma, which is benign and not cancerous.

Doctors removed it by passing special tools through her mouth.

They used an advanced method called third space endoscopy.

The operation took about two and a half hours.

She could eat again the next day and went home after three days.

She returned to her normal activities within a week.
