Austrian Tycoon Benko Appeals Fraud Conviction
Rene Benko, a former rich businessman from Austria, was found guilty of hiding expensive watches and cuff links from people he owed money to.
He was given a suspended prison sentence and a fine.
Benko says he didn't do anything wrong and will ask a higher court to change the decision.
The people who accused him think the punishment is too light and will also ask for a change.
This case is part of a bigger investigation into problems with Benko's company, which went bankrupt in 2023 and affected many investors.
Rene Benko, an Austrian former property tycoon, was convicted of insolvency-related fraud.
He was sentenced to a 15-month suspended prison sentence and fined 4,320 euros.
Benko will appeal the conviction, claiming he did nothing wrong.
The prosecution will also appeal, arguing the sentence is too lenient.
The case is part of a larger investigation into the collapse of Benko's property group, Signa, in 2023.
