Hindutva Influencer Granted Interim Bail After Alleged Protest Assault

Swatantra Bharadwaj, an influencer, was accused of hurting Sanjay Kumar during a protest.

Kumar is the father of student activist Nishu Aazad.

The protest took place at Jantar Mantar on July 23.

A video later circulated in which Bharadwaj appeared to say that he had badly injured Kumar.

He was detained on September 4.

Police filed charges related to causing simple hurt and stopping someone unlawfully.

After another protest, police also added provisions concerning criminal intimidation and protections for Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes.

Bharadwaj says he was defending himself from a dangerous crowd.

A court has now given him temporary bail for three weeks while his regular bail request is considered.
