Ruia family gets anticipatory bail in fraud case

The high court in Kolkata granted anticipatory bail to industrialist Pawan Ruia and two of his family members.

They were accused of being involved in an online fraud scam where money from various scams across the country was allegedly parked in their bank accounts.

The prosecution claimed the fraud could amount to ₹700-800 crore and wanted to take them into custody for further investigation.

However, the court allowed their bail on the condition that they deposit their passports with the lower court.

The police have traced ₹315 crore to bank accounts linked to the Ruia family and have registered over 1,300 complaints against shell companies connected to them.

A Delhi resident, Rahul Verma, who is close to the Ruias, is in police custody and is believed to have played a crucial role in the alleged money laundering operation.
