Delhi Police Detain Anti-Reservation Protesters at Jantar Mantar

Delhi Police Detain Anti-Reservation Protesters at Jantar Mantar

Many people gathered in Delhi to ask for changes to the reservation system.

They said a person’s financial situation should matter when deciding who receives help.

They also asked for a review of existing reservation rules and raised concerns about some laws and university policies.

The protest was organised through social media by the Reservation Hatao Andolan campaign.

Police said the group did not have permission to gather at Jantar Mantar.

Police said a smaller protest had been approved at Ramlila Ground instead.

Organisers said they wanted to stay at Jantar Mantar and submit a memorandum to Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Police put up barricades and brought in extra security forces.

Several protesters were detained, while an allegation about internet jammers could not be independently verified.
