Houthi Drone Incident Near Mecca Raises Regional Tensions

A Houthi drone was reportedly shot down near Mecca.

The United States also changed its advisory for Saudi Arabia.

These events are happening as a larger conflict spreads into Yemen.

They are also increasing tensions between Saudi Arabia and the Houthi movement.

The Houthis have targeted commercial ships in a nearby sea passage.

That passage is called the Bab-el-Mandeb Strait.

The waterway is important because the regional conflict could affect shipping there.

The Saudi-led coalition’s warning about Mecca shows that the disagreement is becoming more serious.
