Markets Recover on Trade Optimism
On January 12, 2026, the Indian stock markets had a big turnaround after a few days of losses.
The Nifty 50 and Sensex both went up because people were hopeful about a trade deal between the US and India.
Metal stocks did really well, with Coal India being the biggest winner.
But some other stocks like Infosys and Bajaj Finance went down.
The Indian rupee stayed the same, and gold prices went up because of some political tensions.
The RBI governor said the rupee's fall is normal and the markets will determine its price.
He also mentioned that India's economy is strong and will continue to attract foreign investments.
The rupee's movement depends on the dollar index and other global factors.
The RBI is comfortable with the current inflation levels and expects them to rise slightly in the future.
Markets recovered from a five-session losing streak on optimism around US-India trade negotiations.
Nifty 50 closed at 25,790.25, up 106.95 points, and Sensex gained 301.93 points to settle at 83,878.17.
Metal stocks led the rally, with Coal India being the top gainer on the Nifty 50.
Infosys and Bajaj Finance were among the top losers on the Nifty 50.
The Indian rupee traded flat near 90.16 against the dollar, while gold prices surged amid geopolitical tensions.
