Readers Debate Caste Rituals and India–United States Trade Relations
The letters discuss two different issues.
One writer says cleaning a place after a political rally can look like treating some people as impure.
The writer believes this brings back harmful ideas linked to untouchability.
Other writers discuss disagreements between India and the United States about immigration.
They say both countries should keep talking instead of allowing visa disputes to damage trade and cooperation.
One writer says United States companies benefit from Indian workers with specialised skills.
Another says India should create more good jobs at home so workers are less dependent on opportunities abroad.
The writers generally support fair immigration rules, cooperation and stronger economic ties.
They also say India should diversify its partnerships and follow local regulations.
A reader says purification rituals after political rallies revive caste-based ideas of untouchability and weaken equal citizenship.
The letter argues that political parties are turning symbolic cleansing into a form of rivalry instead of debating policy.
Several readers say immigration disagreements should not be allowed to damage India–United States trade and strategic relations.
One reader highlights United States companies’ reliance on Indian professionals in technology, healthcare, engineering and research.
Another urges India to strengthen domestic employment, research, semiconductor manufacturing, artificial intelligence and advanced services.
